Our amazing team at Soweto Academy continues to be a powerhouse of holistic transformation in Kibera—expanding from a feeding center into an educational institution, community health provider, water utility, sports champion, and scholarship hub. It's not just shaping students; it's uplifting families and neighborhoods through a multifaceted mission.

Founded in 1988 by Reverend Chrispinus Okumu (Chris), Soweto Academy began as a feeding center and nursery school for five orphaned children who were living on the streets and scavenging at a former dump site in Kibera.
The school's foundation is rooted in alleviating the severe poverty and lack of access to education and nutrition in one of Africa's largest informal settlements.

Soweto Academy is a beacon of hope in one of Africa's most challenging environments. It provides holistic support—nutritional, educational, and extracurricular—to children who have faced unimaginable hardships. Through partnerships and persistent dedication, it continues to open doors for Kibera’s youth, empowering them to learn, compete, and dream big.
